Starting the Journey - A Beginners Guide to Wine

The most difficult part about learning about wine is knowing where to begin. There are thousands of wines in the world and deciding which ones to get can be a daunting task. It then gets harder when you learn that there are hundreds of different names of regions to think about, each of which has a very distinct character and style.

The best way to begin is to dive into the value section. Value wines are the inexpensive wines that show varietal character. They are usually simple wines that give you a good sense of what each type of wine should taste like. And because they are inexpensive you do not put yourself at risk for spending a lot of money on a wine you do not enjoy.

Once you have found a type of wine in the value section that you enjoy, then it is time to climb the ladder and see if a slightly more expensive wine will taste better. Let me assure you, it should.
