Bodegas

Bleda Monastrell Jumilla Castrillo de Jumilla 2005. ($10)
This is a balanced, well-structured red wine with no oak and good acidity. Monastrell is the main grape in hot, dry Jumilla, Southwestern Spain. It marries plush texture with firm backbone and delivers black cherry and light gamy flavors. A nice mix of fresh fruit and local character. "A plush texture...black cherry and fresh mixed fruit." (Wine Spectator) Great with steak! A real value!

—Pierre Rovani, June 2006.

The 2005 Panarroz (2004 label displayed) is an elegant, amazingly versatile wine at a remarkable value. It is opulent, soft, dry, and fruit-filled. It comes from Spain's Jumilla region which has hot days, cold nights, dirt-poor soil and the ability to grow wines of great sophistication at low prices. Lush and luscious today it will improve in the bottle for another year. Food: It can be slightly chilled for summer drinking with food from the grill or enjoyed at room temperature when the weather cools down. It can even be enjoyed with seafood dishes, especially rich, meaty fish like tuna, salmon, or sea bass. Try it with hamburgers - or at an elegant dinner party.

On the palate, this medium-bodied effort is big, spicy, reveals loads of depth, and has a tannic rusticity that screams out for barbequed steaks.
“A blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, and Syrah, the 2005 Panarroz is a wonderful value. It bursts from the glass with leather laced black fruits.” The Wine Advocate, Best Buys, 6/30/06
